Thor: Love & Thunder Promo Art Reveals The Mighty Thor

Marketing artwork for Thor: Love and Thunder reveals the full look at Jane Foster's Mighty Thor costume, complete with the rebuilt Mjölnir.

Jane Foster's Mighty Thor costume is revealed in new Thor: Love and Thunder promo art. Director Taika Waititi returns to the MCU after helming Thor: Ragnarok in 2017, essentially saving the God of Thunder's sub-franchise. However, this time, he's going bigger for the Chris Hemsworth-led blockbuster, which will also see the official return of Portman's Foster since 2014's Thor: The Dark World.

These images are by far the best look yet at Jane Foster's return, with the character due to pick up Mjölnir and thus be transformed into The Mighty Thor. Foster will once again be played by Thor and Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman, who has previously commented on her character's exciting comeback. The actress has since teased her role as The Mighty Thor, revealing that she will share the screen with Chris Hemsworth’s God of (love and) Thunder saying, “There’s still the other Thor - the original Thor.”

Taking up the Thor mantle as well as next to Hemsworth has super hero in Portman having to train harder than she ever has before in order to sell her new role. “I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was, four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming,” she said. “We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes — heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before.”

This level of training, something which seems to be required of every actor who wishes to join the pantheon of Marvel heroes, actually helped Portman bring The Mighty Thor to life. “It definitely helps you get into character, and it's definitely changed the way I move,” she explained. “You walk differently; you feel different. I mean, it’s so wild to feel strong for the first time in my life.”

While details of Jane Foster's return remain something of a mystery, Thor: Love and Thunder will likely take inspiration from The Mighty Thor comic book run written by Jason Aaron with artwork from Russell Dauterman. The story sees Jane Foster suit up as the Asgardian hero while receiving treatment for breast cancer, with the power of Thor's hammer both restoring her strength and stopping her cancer treatment from working, putting her in an impossible situation.

Along with Thor and The Mighty Thor and their vibrant new costumes, Thor: Love and Thunder will also see Oscar winner Christian Bale join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher. Born on a planet with no name, Gorr feels abandoned by the Gods, and bonds with a dark god's sword, transforming into an amorphous mass of living darkness. Gorr's hatred of the gods leads him on a revenge mission across time and space. Here's hope that the next piece of promo art will reveal Bale as Gorr in all his glory.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who has co-written the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
